CHIARA MONTALI professional translator

I am a professional translator, offering translation services from English and French into Italian. My specialist areas include technical (construction and civil engineering), commercial, tourism, market research and video games (casual games to be translated and localised).

Before accepting a job, I assess various factors: whether I am able to translate the text, whether I can master the topic dealt with, whether I can reproduce its style accurately, whether the delivery times are feasible in order to guarantee a quality product and whether the proposed rate is sufficient for the work and time to be dedicated to the translation.
I prefer to decline an assignment where delivery of a perfect quality translation is not fully guaranteed. In the case of languages or subject areas that do not fall within my area of expertise, I try to help the client find another translator by contacting colleagues with proven professionalism or by passing on their names.

After gaining my high school diploma (classics), I enrolled in the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature at IULM in Milan, where I graduated with full honours in 1995. In 1999 I obtained my diploma as a translator at the Scuola Superiore per Interpreti e Traduttori del Comune di Milano. During these years of university education, I spent several periods abroad: in Bordeaux I took part in the Erasmus Project and attended courses at the Université Michel de Montaigne, in London I obtained a Certificate of Proficiency in English and on San Juan Island, an island off the coast of Seattle, I worked for a summer in a tourist facility.

In order to stay up to date with the constant technical and methodological changes underway in the world of translation I regularly attend training and refresher courses held by translation industry professionals and by AITI, the Italian translators and interpreters association, of which I have been a member since 2007.
